Refineries, Terminals, & Marketers Amalgamated has been servicing the distillate fuels production and supply systems for more than 30 years with Top ShelfTM "custom formulated" Premium Fuel Additive products and numerous winterization protection additives. As a "true" custom formulator of diesel fuel additives, Amalgamated has the capability to compound simple or complex winter diesel fuel additives and premium diesel fuel formulations to provide the precise performance benefits desired by our customers. To minimize freight and treatment costs, our custom formulated winterization additives for petroleum refineries can be easily compounded with concentrated chemical components requiring heated storage and injection systems. Or, we can specifically formulate and compound our additive packages with significantly lowered flow handling properties as requested by our customers to allow for storage and injection handling without the need for heated delivery systems. While Amalgamated will advise its customers on the options available for Top ShelfTM custom formulated distillate fuel additives, our refinery additive formulas are strictly dictated by our customers' requirements and their individual additive handling and delivery system needs. Amalgamated extensively tests refinery fuel productions before and after making specific fuel additive recommendations in order to verify that our products (a) achieve the desired performance results and (b) provide the most economically feasible and cost effective fuel treatment for each customer application. We pride ourselves on being able to compound and market the absolute best, most cost effective distillate fuel additives for all petroleum refinery applications. And, we offer an absolute promise to "meet or beat the additive price for the actual performance benefits achieved by any competitor product sold to any petroleum refinery in North America". PRODUCTS Cloud Point Depressant Additive - CPD-310® Lowering a diesel fuels cloud point has historically always meant Kerosene blending, especially Biofuels (B5 and greater). In 2009 Amalgamated proudly announced the introduction of its "new technology" chemistry breakthrough for lowering the Cloud Point of distillate fuels. This exclusive blend of unique new chemistries allows for distillate fuel Cloud Point reductions of as much as 10 degrees F in refinery diesel fuel and distillate rundown line products regardless of light distillate (kerosene) content in the finished fuel products. The "CPD-310" additive is formulated for ease of handling and can be treated at pipeline and terminal levels for achieving product transportation and usage specification requirements. "CPD-310" additive also lowers the distillate fuel Pour Point by as much as 20 degrees F and eliminates the need for adding traditional Pour Point Depressants! Amalgamated's Top ShelfTM "CPD-310" additive offers the petroleum refiner significant cost benefits through cut point temperature modification potentials that will dramatically reduce distillate fuel production costs and lower additive expenses while optimizing light distillate (kerosene) blending costs. The "CPD-310" additive can also be blended with other exclusive "winterization chemistries" to lower the CFPP, fully Disperse the solidified paraffin Content below the Cloud Point temperature ("WDA") and De-Ice the moisture content to prevent cold weather operability issues. For more information and to request a sample of this "CPD-310" additive, contact us or call us now at (260-489-2549). Cloud Point Depressant Additive - AMAL-CPD-2008® Recently through extensive analysis, Amalgamated has developed a new Cloud Point Depressant Additive formula that has lowered the fuel’s Cloud Point as much as 7 degrees F from base fuel temperature in laboratory testing. This enables refineries to take the light distillate out of the stream and market it as a separate source of income. See Cloud Point News. Cold Flow Improver - CFI-2008™ CFI-2008™ Cold Flow Improver Additive Concentrate is engineered with the latest advances in polymer technology and our proprietary production process to energize the polymer molecules at the molecular level. This enhancement of the chemical structure in the CFI-2018™ Cold Flow Improver Additive Concentrate additive components permits maximum polymer distribution in the treated distillate fuel for a better combination of polymer with the paraffin content. Contact us for more information. De-Icer Terminal managers and marketers know that all distillate (diesel) fuel contains a measureable amount of suspended moisture in the fuel. When temperatures drop below 32 degrees F this moisture will change into ice crystals and form a blockage of the fuel delivery system (fuel line freeze-up). Distillate fuel users look to their fuel suppliers to provide a product that will be not leave them stranded when temperatures fall. The winter diesel fuel additive components (cetane improver, detergents, stabilizers, cold flow improver, lubricity agents and deposit modifiers) must be properly "balanced" with the De-Icer agents in order to effectively lower the operability temperature point of the finished diesel fuel. This balancing of chemical components will have a direct effect on the neat additive pour point and thus determine the additive's handling and storage necessities. Cetane DIESEL FUEL REQUIREMENTS VARY WORLDWIDE The minimum cetane engine number in the United States is 40. ASTM minimum standard for Biodiesel (B-100) is 47. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) recommend a minimum 50 cetane number. German standards require a minimum 49 cetane engine number while the European Standard cetane engine number is a 51 minimum. Amalgamated uses 2EHN (2-ethyl-hexyl-nitrate) for its cetane ignition improver. Industry data was collected several years ago for 2EHN and an industry accepted response curve was developed. This industry Cetane Response Curve is used to determine how much 2EHN is needed to improve the engine cetane number. The reaction of diesel fuel to cetane improver additive is directly dependent on the responsiveness of the fuel. “Higher response” fuels show greater improvement in cetane numbers with the addition of 2EHN than the equivalent percentage of 2EHN in “average responding” and “lower responding” fuels. Unfortunately there are few (if any) “high responding” fuels and only a very limited number of “average responding” fuels in today’s market. While the response curve data is still valid, nearly all fuels available today fall into the “low response” category and most are in the mid to low part of that range. This is very important because improving a low responding fuel by 5 cetane numbers may take two to three times the amount of 2EHN as a percentage of volume that is required for a high responding fuel. Amalgamated collected data over a five year period of #2-ULSD from a major Midwestern United States pipeline. More than 150 samples were taken during this period and all samples had cetane engine tests run on them. At the same time equivalent samples were treated with a premium additive containing cetane improver and cetane engines were run on them as well. The same additive was used over the 5 year period during which the additive showed an average of 6+ cetane number increase. As more and more higher performance diesel engines are sold in North America, higher and higher cetane fuels will become a necessity. The European diesels are already experiencing significant operational issues related to the low cetane fuels sold in America. Amalgamated ships throughout the United States, has agents worldwide to accommodate even the largest customer, and has an abundant supply of product available at a very attractive price.
